Rheutan Family Pictures, Sandbridge 2012

Every year I wonder why I don't just start drinking at noon on this day.  But somehow we make it through the heat and sticky hugs to capture these irreplaceable memories.

Sandbridge Beach Week

Beach week was finally upon us, and all 16 of the Rheutan family congregated for the fun annual visit.  After blog updating, my next task is to finally assemble our photo book from this year's trip, and so for now I will just post a few of the memorable pictures.  All in all, it was another wonderful week, and I was spoiled with getting to spend some extra time with our great friend, Steph, and her boy, Eamon.  They brought the best bike trailer ever, and we were all in biker's heaven!

Thank you, Patty and Rooty, for getting us all back together again!

Gunnar did finally get his blue crabs!  But he was quite disappointed that they weren't actually blue!

Eamon and Gunnar. Silly boys!

Gunnar to Nan: "Nan, did you used to play in the sand before you were all wrinkly?"

Gunnar's birthday, part 3

Yes, the big 4-year birthday continues!  Gunnar actual birthday was on the day we were driving to the beach and finally reuniting with Erik for the last part of our east coast visit.  We had great plans to take him out to a fun seafood restaurant for blue crabs (blue is his favorite color, and he has been requesting those for a while now), but the crowds caused us to end up at a pizza place.  It was still fun and probably a lot less messy.
Then we finally arrived at the beach house and got to open presents!  Watch out NASA, here comes Captain Gunnar!

Gunnar's birthday, part 2!

Fresh off the sugar-high from the awesome space shuttle, we headed to Richmond to commence our Rheutan family beach week and Gunnar's birthday celebration, part 2!  The night before driving to the beach, Patty and Aunt Lizzie produced a perfectly "vanilla cake with blue frosting with Thomas on top pulling a freight car."  Those were Gunnar's exact requests, and Patty and Aunt Lizzie did not disappoint!!

Then, it was time to open presents.  And THIS IS A FUNNY STORY!!
We all know how awesome Patty and Rooty are at scoring great yard sale deals.  And Gunnar wanted his own rolling luggage tote.  Patty found one in perfect condition and filled it some new clothes, including one of her adorable handmade sweaters.  Gunnar did what any little boy might do and searched every nook and cranny for other treasures that she may have hidden in the bag.  And this is what he found...
A PENNY.
ONE TUBE OF MASCARA.
ONE EMPTY CIGARETTE BOX.
ONE PAIR OF LADIES' UNDERWEAR.

And the best part is that later that night when Gunnar was talking to Erik about his gift, Gunnar said, "Dad, you won't believe what I found in my new suitcase!  A PENNY!!"

HAHAHAHAHAHA!!
WE LOVE YOU PATTY!!

Back to the 'Ville!

We were so happy to be back in the arms of Grammy and Pop-Pop and back in Charlottesville!  The boys were ready to ride the tractor, play with Grammy's farm, go for a boat ride, and get busy in Pop-Pop's workshop.  Gunnar and Pop-Pop made an airplane hanger for the plane they had made last time.
And then it was time to start celebrating Gunnar's 4th birthday!!  Gunnar has asked for an outer space party for months now.  On his long list of future professions, an astronaut is at the top.  And so Grammy got busy recreating the cake she had made for Erik's 5th birthday.

Gunnar was so excited to help bake lick the frosting.

Space shuttle, July 2012.

It was totally out of this world!!!

Gunnar was treated to a very cool lego space shuttle, which both Grammy and Pop-Pop helped assemble.
And as the boys cuddled up with Pop-Pop for a bedtime story...
...I ran off to Georgetown to meet Anne for a much-needed girls night!  Here were are in front of Georgetown Cupcakes, made famous from the show on TLC.  However, the line was way too long, and so we went to Sprinkles down the street and indulged in some very tasty treats with no line!
