Survival of the single mom

While Erik was traveling around the world in 14 days (literally!!), I braved the highway with a 2-year-old and a 3-month-old to make it to my only chance of survival as a single mom... the grandparents' houses! The road trip went amazingly well. We only had to stop once, and fortunately I've mastered the art of peeing while holding an infant in the Baby Bjorn and calmly but forcefully reminding a 2-year-old not to touch the tampon disposal box. Ewww!
Our first stop, Patty and Rooty's house. This was our first extended stay in Richmond without any other cousins around, and though we absolutely love being with the whole family, Gunnar had a blast being the main focus of Patty and Rooty's attention. Every morning, Gunnar would go into Rooty's room and tickle his toes to wake him up. They would then go get the newspaper and share a bowl of cereal. How cute!
Gunnar got to get up close and personal with the ducks at the University of Richmond lake.

We also took a trip to Maymont to see the animals. Unfortunately, we got there too late to see the bears, but we did get to see all of the farm animals, the raptors, and bison.
We had a blast at the new CCV pool complex, which is more like a swimmer's paradise, with 4 pools! Gunnar liked playing in the "sprinkles" (aka: fountains) and the "ocean" (aka: jets) the best.
And we got to spend time with our good friends, the Pierces and joined Sydney and Charlie at the Children's Museum.

We took a day trip to Charlottesville to visit with Grammy and Pop-Pop. It was a perfect day for wagon riding, playing in the sprinkler, checking out Pop-Pop's workshop, and eating cupcakes.

We made it back home to North Carolina in time to hang out with friends for the weekend and to truly test my skills as a single mom for a few days. How'd I do? Well, Erik came home to a house that was still standing, but this momma was exhausted!
