Homeward bound

Thanksgiving 2012

Thank you, Aunt Lizzie and Uncle Robby, for a fun and delicious Thanksgiving vacation!
Time to put the pilots back to work...

Merry Madagascar

Thanksgiving 2012

We were so excited to be in warmer weather for Thanksgiving, and then Erik and I received our birthday gifts from the Hamiltons.  Tickets to a show called, "Ice."  Hmmm...  Well, this turned out to be one of the coolest (no pun intended) things we have ever seen!
Forty artists were brought in from China to spend 1 month carving 2 tons of ice.  The tent was 9 degrees.  Thank goodness for the parkas that were provided!
And this is the final product...

For the big finale...
A trip down the ice slide!!

And a beautiful nativity scene.

Dallas bound

Thanksgiving, 2012

We finally got to make our first trip to see the Hamiltons in Dallas.  And what better time of year to visit the hot city than Thanksgiving!  The boys helped us get there.
We took the kids to the Fort Worth zoo and closed it down as we tried to see every animal there.  It was awesome!

We went to a fun Bavarian restaurant for dinner, where only Levi was brave enough to participate in the chicken dance.
Happy Turkey Day!

No training wheels!

November 4, 2012

Thank you to the balance bike for taking away a rite of passage for a parent.  I envisioned this moment as several days of running alongside Gunnar's bike, holding him up.  And then hugging him as I bandaged his scraped knee.  But no.  Balance bikes are crushing these experiences.
Gunnar decided one day that he was ready to ride with no training wheels.  We took them off.  I held his bike.  He pedaled away.  The end.
Yes, I am a proud mom.  And yes, I love that we can ride side-by-side with him going faster than 3 mph.  And yes, I will overcome the void I feel for not having been a larger part of this milestone.
Way to go, Gunnar!  I love you!

Horsin' around, for real this time!!

November 15, 2012

Our friend, Rory, from Levi's Tumbleweeds class is cared for by an awesome babysitter who lives down the street.  Ms. Carolynn has several horses and other farm animals and has welcomed us in to ride Velvet, who is a very sweet horse.  The boys loved the riding and were awesome barn cleaner-uppers too!

Battle Born Days

November 2012

We headed up to Carson for a Battle Born Days festival, featuring the traveling Vietnam Memorial.  The boys had fun checking out all the soliders' equipment.

Winter wonderland

November 10, 2012

We awoke to the most amazing winter wonderland.  And so what else is one to do, but build an igloo!!
